AI at Zapier
At Zapier, we build and use automation every day to make work more efficient, creative, and human. So if you’re using AI tools while applying here - that’s great! We just ask that you use them responsibly and transparently.
Check out our guidance on How to Collaborate with AI During Zapier’s Hiring Process, including how to use AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or others during our hiring process - and when not to.
Zapier is on the lookout for a talented Engineering Manager to lead our Partner Solutions team. This team sits squarely within Zapier’s external platform — the suite of APIs, SDKs, and embedding tools that allow others to extend Zapier’s automation platform beyond zapier.com. The APIs specifically are at the heart of this team’s ownership; think the public APIs that let an external group embed automation into their own product.
You’ll lead our technical team with a focus on taking full ownership of the team’s engineering strategy — not just executing what’s handed to you, but shaping it. The team's work directly impacts how partners grow with Zapier, how they retain their own users, and how automation gets embedded into the products millions of people use every day. If you’re excited about platform products, API design, and working at the intersection of Zapier and its partner ecosystem, this is your role.
About You
- You operate with full ownership. You have a proven track record of leading engineering teams with a clear focus on delivery and impact. You support and grow your team while enabling them to drive technical decisions, and you partner closely with product to align your team’s work with company strategy. You lead with clarity and create space for others to lead.
- You have strong technical depth and breadth. We span multiple domains within the external platform. You have the technical range to go deep where it matters, provide meaningful guidance across different workstreams, and earn credibility with engineers through substance. You’re comfortable staying technically engaged despite not being the IC.
- You understand what it means to build platform products for external partners. Whether from a previous role in a B2B platform, an API product, or a role working directly with partners or enterprise customers, you bring genuine empathy for the partner experience.
- You are a proactive cross-functional operator. You independently identify the stakeholders your team’s work affects and build those relationships before they become blockers. You rally the team and partners around cross-functional projects, proactively solicit feedback on team plans, and ensure your team is well-represented across the zone and the org.
- You develop your people. You build high-performing teams through consistent, actionable feedback and genuine investment in IC growth and career development.
- You have excellent communication skills. Zone and engineering leadership can rely on you for accurate, well-scoped updates on team direction and progress. You regularly work with engineers and stakeholders from various disciplines, balancing engineering concerns with product needs, and you help build understanding around difficult decisions.
- You champion frequent deployments and experimentation. You believe in shipping regularly and improving through real-world feedback. You foster a culture of experimentation, rapid learning, and continuous improvement.
- You put users and partners first. Your decisions and leadership are guided by the needs of the developers and partners who build on Zapier’s platform. You build relationships across teams and influence technical decisions for the ecosystem’s benefit.
Things You’ll Do
- Lead and develop a team of 4–7 engineers, providing technical direction, mentorship, and career growth opportunities
- Own the engineering strategy for Partner Solutions; shaping it in collaboration with your PM and zone leadership, then driving its execution with full accountability
- Build deep technical understanding across the team’s domain: the Powered by Zapier API surface, embedding solutions (Workflow Element, Zap creation, Action Runs), Managed Authentication, Zap Templates, Sponsor User Automation, and AI workflow features
- Work with the engineering team to make, evaluate, and advocate for architectural decisions that align with Zapier’s vision and technical standards
- Collaborate across engineering teams to evaluate and inform technical decisions, creating alignment and removing blockers for the team’s roadmap
- Proactively identify stakeholders impacted by the team’s work, including partner-facing and internal teams and build those cross-functional relationships independently
- Champion problem-solving by identifying technical challenges and improving engineering processes
- Be a close partner with product to tackle partner and user problems effectively, and align the team closely to the roadmap.
- Communicate effectively to lead your team and keep leadership informed on progress through one-on-ones, team meetings, and leadership updates
- Set clear performance expectations for engineers and support their growth to meet those goals
- Foster a culture of experimentation, rapid learning, and continuous improvement
