WHAT YOU’LL DO
Strategy
- Develop and lead editorial content strategy for assigned team communities centered around seasonal tentpole events.
- Develop and implement policies and best practices for assigned team communities
- Attend regular meetings to discuss and refine strategy, programming, and tactics in pursuit of our audience goals.
Community oversight
- Collaborate with NFL Director, Community to increase engagement around comments, Feed posts and overall community health.
- Collaborate with NFL Director, News to expand our audience on all platforms with a refined SEO strategy
- Conduct editorial oversight, quality control, and accountability for assigned team communities sites. In some cases, this will include close editorial oversight of original reporting and coverage of sensitive subjects.
- Oversee assigned team and macro sites and associated budgets, with seasonal adjustments between tentpoles
- Work with assigned team communities to continually diversify their contributors and audiences
Execution
- Execute on sales strategies in partnership with stakeholders
- Hire and supervise full-time employee site/team community producer(s)
Communication & Collaboration
- Serve as a point of contact for assigned NFL team communities contributors to SB Nation, and provide consistent and reliable support to contributors.
- Consult with programming, audio, marketing, commerce, legal, and other internal teams as needed to implement NFL content strategy on team communities
- Conduct outreach to assigned team communities managers and staffs, and facilitate exchange of story ideas, strategy, tactics, successes, opportunities, knowledge sharing, etc.
- Serve as point of contact for communications to assigned team communities from Vox Media, which may include working with or communicating messages from: product, support, editorial, video, legal, and/or people & culture teams, in conjunction with centralized SB Nation leads
- Coordinate and collaborate with senior team community management and producers on NFL coverage.
Writing
- Occasionally, research, write, and edit posts related to topical coverage of multiple teams.
- Produce high-quality, timely content that resonates with each team’s fanbase while maintaining the broader voice and tone of SB Nation.
- Stay ahead of NFL trends, breaking news, and significant stories and apply to relevant team site coverage. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders across the NFL to ensure content goals align with strategy
WHO YOU ARE
- At least 3-5 years experience working as a writer or editor, preferably in the NFL space
- Advanced knowledge of all things NFL
- Management or mentorship experience
- Demonstrated skills in content strategy, handling budgets, providing editorial assistance, SEO, and digital content creation best practices
- Ability to take direction, meet deadlines, and work independently within a collaborative, team environment
- Incredible attention to detail
